Young Chiropractic Knows Anatomy Well, Knows Your Spine Well

August 24, 2021

Your Easley chiropractor understands your spine! Young Chiropractic knows anatomy. Back in chiropractic school, your chiropractor studied much about anatomy of the spine and utilizes that knowledge daily. Knowing the anatomy of the spine is always at the forefront of your chiropractor’s mind as you and each spine pain, neck pain, back pain patient comes into the practice! It’s so exciting! (Are you not you glad someone finds it exciting?)

LEARNING ANATOMY IN SCHOOL

When we were in school, we were all guilty of learning only to pass a test. When in professional school, such learning is more important than ever since it will impact everyday work. (How much do you remember from your school days?) An international survey of chiropractors and anatomists described that chiropractors thought that a higher level of anatomy instruction during chiropractic education was beneficial for clinical practice, allowing better understanding, application, and analysis of anatomical information to justify a clinical decision in their daily clinical practice. (1) An Australian study of chiropractors compared their knowledge of anatomy to that of chiropractic students. The chiropractic practitioners rated their knowledge of anatomy and proved it in a test showing their knowledge. This was contrasted to the equivalent in their chiropractic student counterparts. The chiropractors demonstrated that they retained their knowledge of anatomy - and knew they did! – breaking the thought that chiropractic practitioners may not retain it after a period of time. Knowledge of anatomy is used daily in chiropractic practice, and chiropractors understand their anatomy. (2) Your Easley chiropractor does! We’ll be happy to talk about it!

SPINAL ANATOMY KNOWLEDGE PUT TO USE IN CHIROPRACTIC CLINICAL PRACTICE

Applying spinal manipulation daily uses knowledge of the spine’s anatomy every day. The most common reasons people reported seeking chiropractic care were low back pain (49.7%), neck pain (22.5%), and extremity issues (10.0%). The most common treatment they experienced were spinal manipulation (79.3%), soft tissue therapy (35.1%), and formal patient education (31.3%). (3) Spinal conditions get a great deal of attention from chiropractic patients and their chiropractors, of course! But positive side effects of chiropractic care materialize in the medical literature as well like potential cardiovascular benefit. In a placebo-controlled, assessor-blinded, randomized trial, researchers described the immediate effects of manual therapy to the upper thoracic spine on cardiovascular autonomic control of patients with musculoskeletal pain (ie, back pain, spine pain, neck pain, etc.). The researchers explained that musculoskeletal pain intensified the risk of cardiovascular events. (4) Come experience these benefits of chiropractic treatment based on spinal anatomy knowledge.
