Clues: What links these symptoms together – fogging, irritation, redness, pain, headache?

Answer: COVID 19.

The protective gear has its down-sides in addition to its benefits. Your Easley chiropractor is here to help lessen some of the related pains like neck pain and headache. ISSUES WITH MASKS THAT RESULT IN Easley NECK PAIN AND HEADACHE

Masks and mask-wearing have down sides. One study of nurses reported headache bothered 73.4%, extreme sweating affected 59.6%, breathing difficulty disturbed 36.7%. Goggle or glasses’ fogging was described by 91.7%. N95 wearers reported issues with nasal bridge scarring in 76.6% and pain and indentation of the back of the ears by 66.4%. (1) Another study of nurses who had to wear masks and other PPE for more than 4 hours at a time revealed that vision problems affected 47.9% of them as did redness of cheeks/nose bridge/ears, dry mouth, and headaches. (2) One study of healthcare workers centered on the occurrence of headache throughout COVID-19. 81% stated that they developed new PPE (mask/eye wear)-linked headaches. 33% of them described experiencing headaches before COVID. 91.3% of those pre-existing headache sufferers said that increased mask/eye wear equipment affected their headache control and work. (3) Overall headache occurrence due to PPE (mask/eye) was 62% in another report. Working more than 8 hours at a time increased the odds of new headache occurrence. Discomfort, blurred vision, and reduced concentration were other reported issues. Wearing such equipment provoked pre-existing headache issues and triggered new headache occurrences. (4) Young Chiropractic has gathered new pain complaints from our Easley chiropractic patients in the past year. Your Easley chiropractor has treated many for headache and neck pain relief.

NEW PAIN ISSUES AND HELP WITH CHIROPRACTIC

According to the American Chiropractic Association, our Easley chiropractic patients are not alone! Chiropractic patients across the country are telling of some new pain issues with their neck, shoulders, and upper back throughout COVID experience, especially those who wear masks for long hours. Certainly, stress is a contributor to pain in normal times. In these times, it’s no surprise that patients are describing more pain. Masks may well add to pain in the neck, shoulders, and upper back. Masks may impact vision. If a mask rests too high, the wearer may tuck the chin to see more clearly or hold the neck in an awkward way to see better. A better fitting mask may be beneficial. More frequent breaks may help. Stretching more often may help. A walk to de-stress is a great option! (5) Your Easley chiropractor knows these issues and is ready to help!
