Both Easy and Beneficial to Raise Vitamin D Levels

April 03, 2018

It is a world-wide epidemic: low vitamin D levels. 14% of the world population has poor vitamin D levels. (1) One published report states that it affects 1 billion people worldwide. (2) Low vitamin D status is connected to a wide assortment of diseases. Improving vitamin D levels is beneficial and easy…if vitamin D supplementation is taken. Young Chiropractic encourages our Easley chiropractic patients to know and improve as necessary their vitamin D levels. Young Chiropractic is certain that positive health benefits will ensure from this effort.

DISEASES RELATED TO LOW VITAMIN D LEVELS

A widespread vitamin D deficiency is correlated with many diseases. The incidence of cancers like lung, pancreatic, colorectal, kidney, breast is associated with low vitamin D levels. Diabetes, rickets, rheumatic arthritis, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer diseases, benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, osteomalacia, osteoporosis, and fractures in adults are as well. (1, 2, 3) Vitamin D plays a key role in calcium homeostasis, skeletal metabolism, and the function of immune, cardiovascular and reproductive systems. (2) Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo is also research-connected to vitamin D status and bone mineral density. (3) It responds well to vitamin D3 supplementation. Testing for the occurrence of osteopenia/osteoporosis in these patients is the test as to the success of the treatment. (4) Young Chiropractic notes that this is interesting as these two conditions are also identified as being affected by vitamin D status too. Easley chiropractic care at Young Chiropractic benefits Easley chiropractic patients with these conditions.

BENEFITS OF RAISING VITAMIN D LEVELS

Supplementing those who take antidepressants with vitamin D is documented to improve the antidepressive effect. Researchers propose that vitamin D may be beneficial for other such conditions beyond just depression like schizophrenia, cognitive disturbances, attention deficit disorder, and autism. (1) Providing a daily same dose of vitamin D (1000 units/kg I.P.) to post-surgical back patients on day one through day 21 lessens symptoms of neuropathic pain. (5) Young Chiropractic sees how these benefits are worth the effort our Easley chiropractic patients would undertake to elevate low vitamin D levels.

HOW TO RAISE VITAMIN D LEVELS

A study of healthy young women showed that taking calcium plus vitamin D (1500 IU) by those with less than 20ng/L or 800 IU of vitamin D by patients with levels of greater than 20 ng/L. Both saw their vitamin D levels raise. The elevation was witnessed in the first month of the study for those taking calcium plus vitamin D. An interesting side observation in this study: It is difficult to get people to do what is suggested! Only 67 of the 106 study participants took the recommended supplements for the 3 months of the study! (6)
