Easley Chiropractic Nutrition Tip: Accept Those Tomato, Bean and Pepper Gifts from Gardeners!

September 01, 2020

The rewards of the summer garden abound! The garden abundance is aplenty! Every family circle seems to have at least one enthusiastic gardener with more tomatoes and green beans and peppers than he or she can use on his/her own. Luckily for us, gardeners’ generosity flourishes. Young Chiropractic urges Easley chiropractic patients to gratefully accept those green beans, peppers and tomatoes and eat them for an amazing anti-oxidant and nutritional boost to fight inflammation, heart disease, cancer, and more! Young Chiropractic welcomes all of these benefits!

ANTI-OXIDANT, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY, ANTI-DISEASE

Young Chiropractic knows this is an amazing list of benefits. It’s difficult to separate these actions from each other! They are all beneficial. Tomatoes are so nutrient rich, supplying vitamin C, potassium and lycopene, an anti-oxidant that benefits cancer and heart disease prevention and anti-inflammatory activity. (1,2) To enhance absorption of lycopene, eat tomatoes with some delicious, healthy fats like olives, avocados or similar oils. (3) Bell and chili peppers are filled with vitamins C, A, E, K1 as well as potassium, folic acid and fiber. [All of us all could use a bit more fiber in our diets! About fiber, green beans are wonderful sources. Plus, they have large number of proteins, carotenoids, and anti-oxidants with only a small number of calories. Nutrients in green beans are described as being anticarcinogenic, assisting the prevention and even the stopping the spread of some cancers throughout the body. (4, 5, 6)] Further, peppers assist in fighting inflammation, too, with their anti-oxidants. Raw and roasted peppers have anti-oxidant benefits. Roasting may raise or lower those benefits determined by the pepper type and stage of their growth. (7,8,9) Either way, your Easley chiropractor encourages you to enjoy some peppers, tomatoes, and green beans! Your body will repay you!
