Nutrition. Good nutrition is a good foundation for a healthy body. HEALTHY CELLS, CARTILAGE, & BONE PREVENT DISEASES LIKE OSTEOPOROSIS & OSTEOARTHRITIS
Optimal nutrition status protects the body and keeps it strong and healthy. Research has demonstrated the benefits of glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate in slowing osteoarthritis of the knee. Researchers now plan to study how nutrients, vitamins, antioxidants and other natural components in a normal diet may help. (1) Optimal bone and cartilage metabolism wards off issues like osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) regulates bone and cartilage metabolism at the cellular level – even into the nucleus of the cell – of osteoblasts and chondrocytes. (2) The metabolism of articular cartilage relies on chondroprotectors (CPs) that influence the regeneration of cartilage surfaces and joint capsules. In osteoarthritis and low back pain, loss of chondroitin sulfate and hyaline cartilage is noted. Some methods to alleviate this situation involved injections of CPs. (3) Other methods involved oral supplementation as diet is not often a basis for these CPs. Oral supplementation is also a preferred way to improve vitamin D levels as low levels of vitamin D are known to contribute to conditions like osteoporosis, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, some cancer types, and overweight/obese status. Vitamin D is key, but its natural sources like fatty fish and eggs are not usually part of most people’s daily diets. In Spain, at least 50% of the population is lacking vitamin D. Researchers recommended that Spain find a way to urge people to eat eggs to fight the vitamin D deficiency and fend off future diseases. (4) It’s particularly important for those who have a mix of issues - osteoporosis, vitamin D deficiency and high fracture/fall risk – to maintain their supplementation of vitamin D. (5) Feeding yourself goes so much further than feeding your stomach and satisfying your taste buds! The food you eat and the supplements you take keep your body functioning, healthy and strong.
