How Chiropractic Works
Many people assume that you simply go to a chiropractor when your in pain and you get a chiropractic adjustment to move the misaligned bones back into place and just like that you are 100%. Well it doesn’t work exactly like that.
When a bone shifts out of its proper alignment, it puts some pressure on the nerve or on other surrounding area that puts pressure on the nerve (the weight of a dime is too much pressure for a nerve) and this pressure on the nerve, reduces the ability for the brain to fully communicate with the organs, tissues and cells that are on the other end of the communication lines. When you think about this, consider, how much pressure do you want on the nerve going to your heart, your lungs, kidneys, prostate or ovaries ? How about your brain stem? If pressure is on the brain stem from the upper cervical being out, it can cause all sorts of issues. This is why we push to have your family checked and spinal hygiene for preventative care. If you keep your body, bones and joints moving, when something moves or shifts out of place, it can quickly be corrected. However if you wait, your body will naturally attempt to stabilize, at that point the muscles shift as well and start to build up, working to stabilize and this process puts unnatural pressure on other areas of the body. Pressure on a nerve will also cause the surrounding muscles and organs to become weak. This is very common and is usually unknown to you until you start to experience pain which is always the last thing to show itself. Many times people will be in pain and then start to feel better after this process begins and that is because only 10% of your nerves sense pain so you may be initially in pain and then once your body attempts to stabilize it can relieve some pressure of that 10% but more times than not, the problem is still there and still progressing.
Misaligned bones, poor posture and aches and pains happens to individuals at all ages, starting at birth. The birthing process experience is extremely trying on the little body of a newborn with twisting, pulling and bending. As a toddler, all the way through young adulthood we fall and get back up but those injuries, at times, linger. As we grow older we have injuries that are still with us like sports injuries, slip and falls, automobile injures, all these small aches and pains that we have brushed off over the years as nothing build up and lead to major issues that one day we find ourselves waking up day after day in agony. We go to our primary care doctor, they give us muscle relaxers and pain pills and we mask our pain until its unmanageable and at that point we find ourselves facing surgery which in many cases does not workout.
All of this could be avoided with simple, monthly or weekly chiropractic visits. However, once the injuries have made their way to the future and turned into pain and muscle weakness things are much more difficult to get under control and need more consistent care by a corrective spinal care specialist. I am not saying they can’t be fixed but it will now take much more time and dedication from you. Its just like going to the gym, people don’t gain those extra 100 lbs over night and we can’t loose them overnight either. When we let things go to long, we have to work hard to get to where we want to be.
