September 24, 2019

Do something. Move. Walk. Stretch. Patients who suffer with pain benefit when they do something. A lack of exercise is a risk for worsening pain, both pain in the body and pain in the mind in the form of depression. Young Chiropractic takes care of many Easley back pain patients in pain who also deal with depression. Young Chiropractic also understands that when our Easley chiropractic patients do something, they get better in body and mind.

NO EXERCISE INCREASES RISK OF STENOSIS PROGRESSION

Spinal stenosis is a common diagnosis. It is the decrease of the spinal canal area as a result of degeneration. A recent study reported that risk of spinal stenosis progression is higher for those with spondylolisthesis, experienced pain (in leg and/or back) when walking, and more severe stenosis. The lack of therapeutic exercise was also found to a risk factor for the advancement of spinal stenosis. (1) Back pain sufferers like those with spinal stenosis and spondylolisthesis benefit from exercise! Young Chiropractic helps each of our chiropractic patients find what exercise is right for them.

EXERCISE ENHANCES FUNCTION

Nonspecific low back pain sufferers improved their functional disability status better with stabilization and/or McKenzie exercises than with conventional exercise programs. (2) Note though that exercise helped, whether or not it was conventional!

EXERCISE IMPROVES DEPRESSION

For many back pain sufferers with specific or non-specific back pain, chronic or not, may well describe themselves as a little sad when their back pain sticks around longer than desired. It is not unusual. Again, exercise helps! Another study showed that exercise (low dose or moderate-dose strength and conditioning) helped reduce depressive symptoms in adults with chronic low back pain. Blending exercise and manual therapy was a plus! (3) Young Chiropractic incorporates as many beneficial approaches to back pain relief as possible to help our Easley back pain patients! The Cox® Technic System of Spine Pain Management is one of those approaches.
