Easley Back Surgery Patients Must Exercise

March 21, 2017

10,080 minutes are in a week.  What do you do with all that time? Sleep, eat, talk, work, listen, shop, drive…exercise? Isn’t exercise number one on your list?!  Researchers recommend that all of us put in at least 150 minutes of exercise a week. (6) That’s only

  • 2 and a half hours a week.
  • 5 sessions of 30 minutes a week.
  • 10 sessions of 15 minutes a week.

That does not seem like much, but we need to schedule it into our busy lives, don’t we? Even your Easley chiropractor needs to do that! Time goes by so quickly for everyone, including time for your Easley chiropractic physician at Young Chiropractic. Your Easley chiropractic physician at Young Chiropractic encourages Easley chiropractic patients to keep up their exercise routines even when their Easley back pain is not so bad.

Benefits of Exercise

People sleep better, are happier and less depressed when they exercise. (1,2) Easley chiropractic patients do, too! Hearts and minds are healthier when their owners exercise. (3,4) Just take a walk down your Easley street, and see how much clearer you think and healthier you feel with your heart pumping. Exercise slows memory loss. (4) Exercise reduces depressive symptoms. (2) Blood pressure falls. (5) Life span may even increase due to heart workouts with aerobic exercise. (3)  Young Chiropractic sees lots of positives from all of these!

Exercise is life-giving. Exercise is life-supporting. Exercise is all that for normal spine folks but even more important for Easley back pain sufferers particularly for Easley post-back surgery patients who still experience back pain. Post-surgical patients who exercise 150 minutes a week show a significant reduction in pain and reoperation rate reports a new study of post-surgery back pain patients. In this study the mean age was 57 years of age. 80% of them had degenerative diagnoses. 63% had gone through a multilevel back surgery. Only 35% of them met the greater than 1400 kcal per week exercise expenditure and left them vulnerable to a second surgery (named a revision surgery). Only 26% of post back surgery patients met the more than 150 minutes a week of exercise leaving them open to degenerative diagnoses, subsequent spine surgery, and more postoperative back pain. (6) 150 minutes a week does not sound like much anymore, does it? Young Chiropractic knows our Easley chiropractic patients can schedule 2.5 hours a week for their back’s sake. It's part of the whole Easley treatment plan of chiropractic care
